Dr. N. Gregory Mankiw, the Robert M. Bern Professor of Economics at Harvard University and former chairman of the President’s Council of Economic Advisers, will present “The Challenges Facing Monetary and Fiscal Policy” 7:30 p.m. Thursday in Eastern Kentucky University’s Student Success Building (auditorium.
Part of EKU’s year-long Chautauqua Lecture Series on the theme “Crossroads,” Mankiw’s presentation will serve as the eighth annual Distinguished Lecture in International Studies.
“The past few years have been among the most difficult in U.S. economic history,” said Mankiw, chair of Harvard University’s economics department. “I will discuss the challenges that policymakers in the Federal Reserve, Congress and White House have had to face, as well as the challenges they will continue to face in the years to come.”
He is the author of two popular textbooks, “Macroeconomics” and “Principles of Economics.”
Mankiw’s visit to EKU also will include a discussion, 4:45-5:45 p.m., in Room 201 of the Crabbe Library: dinner, 6-7:15 p.m.,in the Faculty Dining Room of the Powell Building.
