Loud music and dancing made the floor shake Friday night at the Russel Acton Folk Center during the fourth annual Valentine’s Dance for Individuals with Special Needs.
All ages and any type of special needs and families were in attendance at the dance.
“This is something we want to do for the community that can be just for them,” said Jennifer Jones, Berea Parks and Recreation recreation supervisor.
Parents helped by providing most of the food and drinks for the event, she said.
Members of several groups volunteered to help with the event by handing out pizza and dancing with participants.
Madison Southern ROTC, Eastern Kentucky University's Alpha Omicron Pi sorority, Kappa Sigma fraternity, Alpha Phi Omega Co-Ed service fraternity, the Student Occupational Science Association and Berea College’s dance education class all had volunteers at the dance.
The dance is one the biggest events of the season that the special needs participants look forward to, Jones said.
