New truck to aid Richmond KSP post in crime investigations

RICHMOND — The Richmond Kentucky State Police post received a new vehicle last week that will enable investigators to perform better and faster on-scene crime analysis.

The Crime Scene Response Vehicle is a Ford Super Duty truck equipped with everything needed for work at a crime scene, including a generator, trace evidence analysis and a latent fingerprint processing machine, according to a KSP news release.

The CSRV will expedite investigations by giving detectives greater storage capacity and state-of-the-art evidence collection tools, the release stated.

No tax money was used to obtain the truck. The KSP used Asset Forfeiture Funds to made the $30,000 purchase. Forfeiture funds are assets such as real estate, vehicles, vessels, aircraft and jewelry seized by local, state or federal law enforcement officials during criminal investigations.

“Positioning these vehicles at all KSP posts will be a valuable asset to KSP as well as an additional resource  for local law enforcement,” KSP Commissioner Rodney Brewer said in the release.

“Combining state and local resources, especially during difficult economic times, will provide the Commonwealth with more efficient and effective crime-solving methods that will result in decreased criminal activity in our state.”
