Calipari-signed basketball, YMCA membership items in Kiwanis Auction

RICHMOND — The 42nd annual Richmond Kiwanis Club fundraising auction will feature some special items, including a basketball signed by University of Kentucky Coach John Calipari from the team’s 2012 game against the University of North Carolina and a six-month membership to the Telford YMCA.

The bidding will begin 9 a.m. Saturday at Richmond City Hall, 239 W. Main St., and is expected to continue until 5 p.m.

A multitude of other items are available to the highest bidder as well, with an overall value of nearly $11,000.

Individual items range in value from $5 to $500, and vary from practical to ornate.

Past auctions have featured surprise items, such as the sheriff’s chair, the mayor’s reserved City Hall parking space and a memento taken from the mayor’s office.

Proceeds from the auction help fund local youth programs, including the Richmond Little League, the Madison Central Archery Club and the Kidz Konnection Klub.
