Gilliam named chief academic officer

Three new principals needed

RICHMOND — New Madison County School Superintendent Elmer Thomas has named Madison Southern principal David Gilliam the district’s chief academic officer. Gilliam, who will be an assistant superintendent, will fill a position left vacant by Randy Peffer, who started a job with the Kentucky Department of Education last month.

Gilliam has worked in Madison County Schools for 21 years, all of them at Madison Southern High School. He has served as a teacher, coach, assistant principal as well as principal.

“Mr. Gilliam has been a vital part of the leadership in the district and in our community for a number of years,” Thomas said. “His skills and expertise will be a great resource for our instructional staff and our principals.”

Interim principals

Donna Caldwell has been selected to serve as Madison Southern’s interim principal. Caldwell is currently the district’s assessment coordinator, but had previously served as an assistant principal at Southern.

Drew Muntz has been named interim principal at Madison Central High School, a position left vacant after Thomas was named superintendent July 26. Muntz was an assistant principal at Central.

Bobby John Harris was selected to serve as interim principal at Waco Elementary School. Harris retired from Madison County Schools after 34 years, during which he served as a teacher and principal at Kirksville Elementary. Harris also served as interim principal at Silver Creek Elementary in 2012.
