BPD: Woman charged with 2nd DUI after leaving scene of wreck

BEREA — An injury accident led to the arrest of a woman who was charged with her second driving under the influence offense.

Tammy Guttenberg, 49, of Berea, was arrested Saturday after Berea police were summoned to a collision that occurred at Richmond Road and the Berea bypass.

The vehicle police allege Guttenberg was driving left the scene, but officers later found it on Elmsleigh Drive, according to a BPD news release.

The officers reported that Guttenberg was unsteady on her feet and had slurred speech. She was charged with leaving the scene of an accident and operating a motor vehicle under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol (second offense).

The release did not contain information about the condition of people involved in the collision.

Police find drug-trafficking operation

Berea police have taken out what they believe was a pill-selling operation on South Broadway.

On Feb. 12, the BPD executed a search warrant on a residence in the 200 block of South Broadway. Inside they reported finding several kinds of pills and $2,410, according to a news release from the agency.

Seventy-three pills were seized, and 47-year-old Steven Clontz was charged with first-, second- and third-degree trafficking in a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

BPD looking for repeat-offender shoplifter

Berea police are looking for a man who, with an accomplice, has stolen nearly $2,000 in merchandise from Walmart.

Officers were notified Feb. 13 by Walmart employees that the same person had stolen items from the store on three separate occasions.

The security camera footage showed a man entering the store in the morning and picking out an electronic item, according to the BPD news release.

The man took the items to the lawn and garden department where he handed them off to someone who placed them inside a vehicle.

The man then left the store, got in the vehicle and drove off. During two of the thefts, the vehicle was an older model gold Chevy Lumina and on one occasion the thieves were in a newer silver Chevy Malibu, according to the BPD.

The estimated value of the items stolen is $1,767.40. Security camera photos of the suspect can be viewed on the BPD Facebook page.

Residents report thefts

A resident in the 600 block of Chestnut Street reported Monday that tools were stolen from his vehicle during the night. The estimated loss is $370.

On Feb. 10, a resident in the 70 block of Kaye Street reported that items worth $200 were stolen during the night from inside his vehicle.
