'Olympic Day' with Richmond Parks and Recreation Summer Fun Adventure Camp

RICHMOND — The Richmond Parks and Recreation Summer Fun Adventure Camp celebrated Olympic Day on Friday with a variety of Olympic-themed activities.

Campers tried their hands at javelin throw, archery, long jump and synchronized swimming.

Olympic Day is celebrated worldwide and was created in 1948 to commemorate the birth of the modern Olympic Games, said Brittany Tombs of the parks and recreation department.

Campers are finishing up the second week of a two-week long summer camp, but two more camps will be offered July 8-19 and July 22-August 2.

The fee is $125 for each two-week camp, but a special price is offered if a camper wishes to participate for only one week.

The camp has six counselors as well as opportunities for “counselors in training.”

For details, contact Richmond Parks and Recreation at 623-8753.
