Arson suspected in Monday morning fire

Register Staff Report

RICHMOND — An early Monday morning fire destroyed an unoccupied Madison Village home, prompting an arson investigation and an offer of $1,000 for information.

While the cause remains undetermined, state police and county firefighters believe the rapid burning of the home probably indicates the use of accelerants, said KSP Trooper Robert Purdy.

When firefighters arrived on the scene, after receiving a 4 a.m. call, the home was completely burned, according to Captain Rodney Dixon of the Madison County Fire Department.

Laboratory tests of samples collected by arson investigators should determine whether accelerants contributed to the fire, Purdy said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the KSP Richmond Post at 623-2404 or the KSP arson tip line at 800-272-7766.
