RICHMOND — The Richmond Fire Department has had to extinguish suspicious fires twice over past two days at a vacant Virginia Avenue home off Big Hill Avenue.

The first fire at 102 Virginia Avenue was reported at 1:55 a.m. Tuesday morning, according to RFD Chief Buzzy Campbell. That fire destroyed most of the rear of the building.

Firefighters responded to the second fire at 2 a.m. Wednesday. The second fire destroyed the front part of the house.

“The house is a total loss at this point,” Campbell said.

The owner of the house, Garnett Davis, said he had been using the building for storage, according to Campbell. Davis also said he had the house’s electricity turned off and the doors locked.

Campbell said the Richmond police, Kentucky State Police and the fire department are investigating the fires.
