Citizen Foster Care Review Board seeking volunteers

Madison County

MADISON COUNTY — The Citizens Foster Care Review boards that serve Fayette, Jessamine and Madison counties are seeking volunteers. The volunteers are needed to review cases of children placed in foster care because of dependency, neglect and abuse to ensure these children are placed in safe, permanent homes as quickly as possible, according to a release by the Administrative Office of the Courts in Frankfort.

Volunteers are not required to reside in the county where a board meets, but they must complete a six-hour initial training session and consent to a criminal record and central registry check. A recommendation is then made to the chief judge of the district court or family court (in your area) for appointment.

The next training for new volunteers is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Jan. 25. For details, contact Shan Sears at 606-451-4303 or

The Madison County CFCRB meeting schedule will be determined based on the schedules of its new volunteers.

The Kentucky General Assembly created the CFCRB in 1982 as a way to decrease the time children spend in foster care, the release stated.

Approximately 800 volunteers across the state serve as members of the boards.
