Saturday downtown pub crawl to benefit breast cancer nonprofit

RICHMOND — Going out for a night on the town is a common Richmond pastime, but this Saturday downtown businesses are offering the opportunity to have fun for a cause.

The first Spring Susan G. Komen Pub Crawl features eight downtown restaurants and bars: the Paddy Wagon Irish Pub, Sapphire Night Club, Apollo Pizza & Beer Emporium, The Copper Still, Nikki’s Tavern, The Manhattan Club and Bailey’s.

The crawl will start with participants meeting at 6 p.m. at the Paddy Wagon for a free cookout, according to manager Silas Smith. There they will receive a map containing all the stops along the crawl.

People will start traveling between the bars at 8 p.m. with participants walking between two and three blocks every half hour to their next destination, Smith said.

The event organizers also are selling T-shirts for the pub crawl that are emblazoned with “Save Second Base.”

Shirts can be purchased for $20 at the Paddy Wagon and wearers will be given free admission and access to all drink specials at the bars Saturday.

Smith said Wednesday that 250 shirts have already been sold.

All money received from the T-shirt sales will be donated to Lexington’s chapter of Susan G. Komen for the Cure, Smith said.

In addition, all the participating business will donate a portion of their sales generated during the pub crawl to the breast cancer awareness nonprofit.

While downtown restaurants and bars have sponsored pub crawls in the past, this is the first one that will benefit a charity, Smith said.
