Moped rider dies after collision

Second fatality since April 25

RICHMOND — A second Richmond motorcyclist has died in less than three weeks after colliding with a car.

Jarid V. Patterson, 40, died Tuesday at the University of Kentucky Medical Center after his moped collided with a car at about 3:04 p.m. on Jacks Creek Road.

Patterson was attempting to turn left off of Secretariat Drive onto Jacks Creek Road when he pulled into the path of an oncoming vehicle, according to a Kentucky State Police news release.

Megan E. Gabbard, 21, of Richmond, was driving north on Jacks Creek Road in a 1994 Honda Accord and collided with Patterson’s moped, according to what the news release calls an initial investigation.

He was not wearing a helmet when the collision occurred, the release added. Patterson was pronounced dead at the Lexington hospital by the Fayette County Coroner.

The collision remains under investigation by KSP Trooper Aaron Hall. He was assisted at the scene by the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, Madison County EMS and the Madison County Fire & Rescue Department.

An April 25 collision at the intersection of Barnes Mill Road and Leimaur Drive in Richmond claimed the life of motorcyclist Larry Don Foster, 59. He too was not wearing a helmet and later died at the UK Med Center, according to Richmond police.
