RICHMOND — A Berea man has been charged in the armed robbery of the Richmond Centre Subway restaurant Wednesday morning.

John C. Hylton, 27, was charged with first-degree robbery later the same day.

Officers were sent at 8:34 a.m. to the restaurant after receiving a report of a robbery. Officers learned that a man wearing a bandana over his face had brandished a handgun at a Subway employee and demanded money, according to an RPD report.

The employee surrendered an undisclosed amount of cash, and the robber fled in a black Kia, the report stated.

The officers were unsuccessful in finding the car, but a night shift patrol officer had encountered a similar Kia the previous morning in the same area and made note of its description and driver. RPD detectives suspected it was the same vehicle involved in the Subway robbery, according to the report.

With the assistance of the Berea police, the officers found Hylton as his residence. The officers reported that a search of his home produced the stolen money and a handgun was found in his black Kia, the report stated.

Hylton was interviewed at the police station, charged and taken to the Madison County Detention Center.
