Jailer says he began investigation of employee

Register Staff Report

RICHMOND — Donna Sue Hunter, 60, the Madison County Detention Center employee who was charged Saturday with promoting contraband and trafficking drugs at the jail had been employed there since 1999, according to Jailer Doug Thomas.

Thomas said he began investigating the jail kitchen employee after her actions aroused his suspicions. When evidence appeared to confirm her involvement in illegal activities, Thomas said he asked a state police narcotics agent to investigate.

She was charged with first- and second-degree promoting contraband, controlled-substance prescription not in a proper container (first offense) and third-degree trafficking in a controlled substance, according to a KSP news release.

Hunter was booked into the Rockcastle County Detention Center just after noon Saturday and released just before midnight, according to the jail’s online records.

Thomas said he understood Hunter had been released on a $5,000 unsecured third-party bond.
