Students in Ron Shuler’s Madison Central Honors French 1 class studied about the Mardi Gras culture and the environmental issues in Southern Louisiana for a few days before celebrating the festival with games and a potluck meal of Cajun style food. Dishes had to be prepared from authentic Cajun cookbooks. Shuler said the experience is designed give students a better sense of what Mardi Gras is and the French heritage connection behind it.
