NEW YORK — A Berea bicyclist remained in critical condition Thursday from injuries sustained in a collision with a passenger car Wednesday on Walnut Meadow Road (Highway 595).

Berea police were notified of the accident at 12:23 p.m., said BPD Chief David Gregory, but when the officers arrived at the scene, emergency medical personnel were already loading Shon Webster, 20, into an ambulance.

Webster is being treated at the University of Kentucky Medical Center.

Webster was in the roadway when the collision occurred, Gregory said. The chief did not know whether Webster was crossing the road or riding on it.

A designated biking and walking trail runs next to the highway.

Police were unable to ask questions or verify whether Webster was conscious when medics arrived on scene.  An accident reconstructionist was called in to determine the cause of the mishap.

The driver of the car was uninjured and was not charged.
