Register Staff Report
RED LICK —
A day and a half of searching in the area where a Madison County teenager was last seen ended Saturday without yielding any evidence of Brookelyn Shae Farthing’s whereabouts.
The search, directed by the Kentucky State Police, involved up to 80 people who combed through 500 acres on Floyd Branch Road off Red Lick Road.
The areas directly behind the home on Dillon Court, where the 18-year-old was last seen a week earlier, also was searched.
“We have no new information to report,” Trooper Paul Blanton, spokesperson for KSP Post 7 in Richmond, said Saturday afternoon. “We’re going to keep looking,” he said, but no additional searching on foot is planned for the immediate future.
Detectives are still trying to develop information about Farthing’s disappearance, Blanton said, and the KSP will act on any new details.
Anyone with information about the case is asked to call the KSP at 623-2404.
Investigators have reason to believe Farthing did not disappear on her own, Blanton said Friday as the search was being conducted.
“With as much as she talked to her friends and family, she would normally be in contact with somebody,” he said.
The house on Dillon Court had been without electricity for several weeks, and the homeowner was in the process of moving out of the home, the KSP spokesperson said.
For a time on Saturday morning, June 22, both Farthing and the resident were reportedly in the home. However, the resident left and when he returned, he said the home was on fire and Farthing was missing, Blanton said.
Some of Farthing’s belongings were found in the home, items “she would not normally be without,” he said.
The KSP distributed a missing person notice Monday morning asking the public’s help in finding the Madison Southern High School graduate. Farthing is described as being 5 feet, 1 inch tall with blonde hair and brown eyes.
According to a flyer on Farthing’s Facebook page, the teenager had been wearing a gray Future Farmers of America shirt and light blue-jean shorts when last seen.
