RICHMOND — A 25-year-old man charged with several sex crimes involving a 14-year-old pleaded not guilty Thursday at his arraignment in Madison Circuit Court.

Aaron Mason, of Berea, was indicted earlier this month on two counts of first-degree sexual abuse, second-degree unlawful transaction with a minor, third-degree sodomy and use of electronic means to induce a minor to engage in sexual activity.

Mason faces a maximum of 20 years in prison if convicted on all the felony charges.

His attorney asked Judge William G. Clouse to lower Mason’s $10,000 bond and place him under home incarceration. Mason has been lodged at the Madison County Detention Center since Sept. 18.

Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Jennifer Smith argued against a bond reduction, stating that Mason’s alleged use of an electronic device to communicate with the underage girl for sexual activity presented a danger to the community.

Clouse declined to lower Mason’s bond.

Mason is scheduled for a pretrial hearing at 1:30 p.m. Dec. 5.
