Three GOP candidates file for judge race

Curry, King and Taylor

RICHMOND — Fiscal Court Magistrate Greg King on Friday filed as the third Republican seeking election in 2014 as Madison County judge/executive.

King, who is in his first term as magistrate, has worked for 29 years in the city Richmond’s vehicle maintenance department.

In May, he will face business owner Reagan Taylor and county Planning and Building Codes Administrator Duane Curry in what could be Madison County’s first-ever Republican judge/executive primary.

In a series of interviews in July, each of the candidates explained why they were going to run. King said his goals as judge/executive would be to ensure there are jobs for those who work at the Blue Grass Army Depot when the stockpile of munitions contained there is eventually destroyed. He also said he wants the county to maintain a balanced budget and never raise taxes.

Taylor said he has never held public office before, but he has been in numerous leadership positions in the private sector. He also said he is politically active and wants to bring an “honest, optimistic and common-sense approach” to county government.

Curry said he thought the judge/executive seat was the best way to “step up” his public service to the county. He said his experience working with all three of the local governments has given him a good look at infrastructure needs in the county.

As of Monday, the three men remain unchallenged by a Democratic opponent, including incumbent Kent Clark. Clark told the Register in July he intends to seek reelection, and he has until Jan. 28 to file.

County attorney files for re-election

County Attorney Marc Robbins has filed for re-election last week, and remained unopposed as of Monday.
