RICHMOND — The Richmond Police Department was toppled from its Turkey Bowl throne Thursday night after Richmond firefighters won their first victory of the annual series by one point.

The firefighters won in the last second of the last play of the flag football game at Madison Indoor Recreation Center, according to organizer and RPD Officer Josh Hale.

The final score was 46-45.

This is the third year the game has taken place, and the RPD had claimed victory in the previous two games.

Eastern Kentucky University intramural referees officiated the friendly, yet competitive game, and the Madison Central High School drum line provided half-time entertainment.

One canned food item donation was the price of admission, and Hale said he expects the department to collect more than 2,000 canned goods. Items are being collected at Madison County schools until students go on Thanksgiving break.
