UPDATED: Traffic stop turns into surprise meth bust

RICHMOND — A routine traffic stop Friday afternoon for a passenger not wearing a seat belt shut down part of Main Street when a Richmond police officer found a meth lab on the passenger-side floorboard.

The stop occurred at 2:10 p.m. between Parish and Aspen avenues. Police and fire personnel blocked off that portion of the road to investigate the vehicle.

Police Chief Larry Brock said two women were in the vehicle when the lab was found.

Only one woman, Breckan Fox, 31, was charged in connection with the meth lab. She was booked into the Madison County Detention Center at 6:49 p.m. Friday on charges of manufacturing methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, first-degree possession of a controlled substance, third-degree possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The driver of the vehicle received misdemeanor charges including driving under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol.

A hazardous materials team cleaned out the vehicle and disposed of the meth lab, Brock said. The police received support at the scene from the Richmond Fire Department.

The road was reopened around 5:30 p.m.
