Hospice Care Plus to host end-of-life symposium Sept. 27

Special to the Register

RICHMOND — Healthcare providers from across the state will descend on Richmond in late September for an all-day symposium on end-of-life care.

The eigth annual End-of-Life Symposium, “Update on Pain and Symptom Management,” is scheduled Friday, Sept. 27, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:15 p.m., at Eastside Community Church in Richmond.

Registration is open now through Sept. 20.

For a brochure or to register, access the registration brochure online or contact Hospice Care Plus at 986-1500, 800-806-5492 or hospice@hospicecp.org

The event is sponsored by the Kentucky Hospice Network, a group of 10 hospices across the state. It is organized and hosted by Hospice Care Plus.

This year’s symposium will feature Dr. Lynn McPherson, a nationally recognized leader in end-of-life pain management and pain education. A professor and vice chair in the University of Maryland Department of Pharmacy, McPherson serves as a consultant pharmacist at state and national levels.

She developed one of the first and few palliative care pharmacy residencies in the United States. She is also a recipient of the American Pharmacists Association Distinguished Achievement Award in Specialized Practice, among many other honors.

McPherson will work with participants to sharpen their skills in the assessment and management of pain and other symptoms at the end of life. For a complete list of learning objectives and a symposium summary, see the online registration brochure.

The symposium is primarily intended for healthcare professionals. Continuing education credits are offered for physicians, pharmacists, and nurses. To learn more, contact Hospice Care Plus at 986-1500.
