Record number attends Pops at the Park

RICHMOND — Circus themes and costumes predominated as a record crowd of approximately 2,000 attended the annual Pops at the Park Concert at White Hall State Historic Site on Saturday night.

The theme was “Under the Big Top,” and Reynolds Insurance won the Judges’ Choice Award for its table, “Top Hats.”

Best table awards went to:

Bechtel Parsons Blue Grass, “The Circus,” first place

Duane and Juanita Curry, a baseball-themed table, second place

Madison County Democratic Party, “Everybody Welcome Under Our  Big Top,” third place.

Best food awards went to:

Rick Greene’s Appliance Repair, first place

Baldwin CPAs, second place

Vicki Whitaker’s “Great Gatsby” table, third place.

The Rupple family’s Beatles themed “Ticket to Ride” setting won the best blanket award.

The Eastern Kentucky University Symphony Orchestra provided the entertainment for the program’s first half, followed by the Johnson Brothers, a rock ’n’ roll group.

The symphony returned to the stage for the program’s conclusion, playing the “Stars and Stripes Forever” as fireworks lit up the night sky.
