Mayfield, Model kindergarteners parade school halls with custom ‘floats’

Register Staff Report

RICHMOND — Kindergarten students at both Mayfield Elementary and Model Laboratory School showed off their custom-made floats for all to see Thursday during each school’s annual parade.

At Mayfield, students worked with their families at home to create a Christmas float.

Prior to the students’ creating their floats, teachers presented a variety of stories that show how Christmas is celebrated around the world. Each family chose a theme and decorated a shoebox together.

Celebrating their last day of school Thursday, Model kindergarten students pulled their colorful floats behind them while some wore handmade shirts.

The youngsters promenaded through the elementary halls, but also made their way to the high school side, where their teenage classmates cheered them on.
