Kirksville Elementary School students learned about the heart and how it functioned Tuesday as they ran and scooted along the gym floor, jumped over hurdles and crawled through tunnels in a special “Heart Adventure Course” organized by physical education teacher Deborah Campbell.
The adventure course was the culmination of a two-week study of the human heart.
Tuesday’s adventure course was divided into blue and red sides, with blue representing blood carrying carbon dioxide and the red blood with oxygen.
The students got to listen to their heartbeat with stethoscopes after competing a full round of the course.
The students learned about good habits that promote a healthy heart – eating healthy foods, exercising, getting enough sleep, regular doctor check-ups and drinking enough water.
