Several local events will ring in the New Year

RICHMOND — Madison Countians are ready to ring in the new year, and several community groups and businesses are planning on showing them a good time. The following events are planned for New Year’s Eve:


• The Kentucky Blood Center will collect donations from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 120 Jill Drive near Walmart. Donors will receive $10 Walmart gift card. Donors may direct their incentive to Salvation Army.

• New Year’s Eve at Kirksville with Doug Thomas & Downtown Deuce Band will be from 6 p.m to midnight at Kirksville Community Center. Tickets are $25 a couple, $15 single, $5 ages 8-15 and free for ages 8 and under. For reservations, call Bill Golden 328-3030 or Helen Estes 328-4521.

• The annual Diamonds & Denim New Year’s Eve Ball will be at the former JCPenney location in Richmond Mall, 830 Eastern Bypass. Cocktails & hors d’ouevres start at 8 p.m. with dinner at 8:30 p.m., dancing to the music of Bent Penny Band at 9:30 p.m. and a silent auction from 8 to 11:30 p.m. For reservations, which cost $75 each, contact a member of the Richmond or Bluegrass Rotary clubs, call 661-2362 or 200-2429, email: or send a message via the Richmond Rotary Club, Richmond KY Facebook page.

Proceeds from the event will benefit Rotary’s “Miles of Smiles” program, which provides dental care to uninsured, low-income children in Madison County.


• Richmond Underground, 292 S. Second St., is hosting a lock-in where children can play laser tag, video games, cornhole tournaments and more. There will be prize giveaways every hour as well as prizes for tournament winners.

The event is $50 for entertainment from 10 p.m. until 7 a.m. Parents who plan on staying out late can pay $75 and pick up their children at noon the next day.

The price includes food for the participants as well as gaming. The event is for children in fourth through 10th grades.


• Galaxy Bowling Center, 1025 Amberly Way, will have a celebration on New Year’s Eve featuring live music from Tim Wager & Hit-N-Run and Hard Sunday. Levi Burns will DJ the party, which will include food and drink specials, champagne and door prizes for customers.

• Paddy Wagon Irish Pub doors will open at 7 p.m. New Year’s Eve. The bar will offer an appetizer buffet all night long and serve a full breakfast beginning at midnight. Customers can expect drink specials and door prizes as well as live music by The Greatest of These.

• Sapphire Night Club’s festivities get in full swing at 10 p.m. when Tim Hellard, Tony Toy and N’Harmony will take the stage to entertain the nightclub’s customers.

• Madison Garden will have the The Chieftain Wilson Band playing live at 10 p.m. The band is locally famous for their mixture of blues and rock music and frequently plays downtown venues.

• Jerzees will have Clark Cain take the stage beginning at 9 p.m. to entertain the crowd.
