RICHMOND — A Madison County grand jury has indicted a man on one charge of murder in the bludgeoning death of his great-grandmother in July 2008.

William "Cody" Boyd Tribble, 22, was arrested four years after JoAnn Tribble was found in the garage of her Teakwood Drive home with a serious head wound. She was taken to the University of Kentucky Medical Center where she died later that day, according to Richmond Police Chief Larry Brock.

While the injury was initially thought to be accidental, an autopsy at the state medical examiner’s office revealed JoAnn Tribble’s head injuries were “caused by being struck in the head by an object,” according to an RPD police officer.

Tribble originally was charged Sept. 19 as a juvenile since he was 17 at the time of his grandmother’s death. A closed transfer hearing was conducted in September in juvenile court, and the case was moved to circuit court so Tribble will be tried as an adult, Commonwealth’s Attorney David Smith said.

Tribble’s arrest citation stated that during an interview with police investigators, the man admitted to assaulting Joanne Tribble with a weapon at her home.

More information on this case will be in tomorrow's print edition of the Richmond Register.
