Last gallery hop/arts walk of 2009 is Saturday

Eight galleries and shops, mostly downtown, will be part of Richmond’s last second Saturday gallery hop/arts walk of 2009 on Saturday. The 5 to 8 p.m. event will feature new stops, new artists, new works, new exhibits, great sales and refreshments, said Ginny Rollins, the coordinator.

No admission will be charged at any locations.

Participants include:

The Pocket Gallery, 209 St. George, located off the Eastern Bypass, beside the Home Satellite Co. The photography of James Gray will be on display and refreshments will be served.

Eastern Kentucky University’s Giles Gallery, inside the Campbell Building on Crabbe Street, will be open with “Design of the Times,” an exhibit of contemporary graphic design curated by the EKU design faculty.

Creative Arts by Sherri, 200 S. 3rd St Local author, Linda Pack, will be signing copies of her book, “A is for Appalachia.”

The Wright Leather Company, 106 South Third St. just behind Tsing Tao Restaurant, the newest shop downtown will be participating in the gallery hop for the first time.

Central Bank, corner of Main Street and Lancaster Avenue will be hosting a first-ever exhibit for local gourd artists, Robert and Linda Murphy. Use the bank’s Main Street entrance.)

Madison Co. Public Library, 507 West Main St., is hosting 5 artists; Luke Davidson, an art student at the University of the Cumberlands. His dad, Bart, a geologist at the University of Kentucky will have paintings of downtown Richmond buildings, and Luke’s mom, Deb, who works at the library and creates wood burnings, drawings and ornaments. Painter Mark Pressley and Michael Cope, who creates slug masks, also will be at the library.

Keramos Ceramic Gallery, 116 South First Street, (just behind and under the Chestnut Tree Gallery). Ceramic artist, Buddy Dobbins, will be on hand to meet visitors.

Chestnut Tree Gallery & Still Waters Studio, at the corner of 1st and Main. Darrell Maggard, of Berea, who uses both watercolor and pencil in creating his works; Barbara McMahan, who specializes in creating portraits by commission and Still Waters Studio artist, Jonathan Rollins who creates pen and ink and pencil works will be on hand.

Several downtown shops and eateries also will be open during the event: Mike’s Hike and Bike, Cosmic Oasis, Art Attack, Babylon, Tsing Tao Restaurant, The Paddy Wagon, Dale’s Hot Dogs, Jimmy John’s, Madison Garden, Subway, and Opals.
