Afternoon robber

Police searching for Hispanic man

Kelly Foreman
Register News Writer

Richmond police are looking for a man who robbed a Richmond woman Thursday in the middle of the afternoon.

About 12:30 p.m., a St. George Street resident was robbed in her home by a man described as a Hispanic male with a stocky build and standing at approximately 5 feet 6 inches tall, said Richmond Police Chief Larry Brock.

“A female resident answered a knock at her door and was greeted by a male brandishing a knife,” Brock said. “The male forced his way into the apartment and started ransacking the bathroom and kitchen while asking for drugs.”

The suspect did not threaten the woman, he just told her to “keep quiet” while he robbed her home.

“The male ultimately found a number of prescription medications belonging to the victim and her family members, along with a black lockbox containing a few personal items and some cash.”

The suspect fled from the scene on foot, and officers responding to the scene searched for the suspect without success. The victim was not injured and she was the only one in the home at the time of the incident.

“Most of the drugs taken were not drugs of abuse, although a few were, including Lorcet, Xanax and Soma,” Brock said.

Brock was not aware Friday of any other similar robberies recently. Anyone with information that could lead to the suspect is asked to call the police department at 623-1162.

“Furthermore, we recommend that residents identify who is knocking at their door prior to opening it, if possible,” Brock said. “If they are unable to identify the person or they are unsure, they should request that an officer be sent to their residence.”
