Music, wrestling combine to help man with cancer

By Heather Harris
Register News Writer

Two different types of performances will combine Saturday to benefit a local man stricken with cancer.

American Championship Wrestling (ACW) from Lexington and Southern Wrestling Alliance (SWA) from Cynthiana will be showcasing their wrestling abilities and entertaining the crowd after a performance of gospel and bluegrass singing.

“This is the first year we’ve combined music with a wrestling show,” said organizer Clyde Richardson. “We’re doing everything we can to make this a fun night for people to come out and support a good cause.”

In July 2008, Richmond resident Ted Kunce was diagnosed with Andiocarsanoma, a rare form of lung cancer. Kunce, who was once active in the National Guard and an employee of Tokico, is now prevented from working because of his disease. Kunce also must drive to Lexington regularly for chemotherapy treatments.

Richardson, a friend of Kunce’s and a wrestler/referee, decided he would promote a unique fundraiser to help his friend.

The ACW/SWA show will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Madison County Fairgrounds.

The doors will open to the sounds of gospel and bluegrass music performed by The Mullins Holler Bunch, featuring Hazel Pickle and Teresa Ingram.

Several local Richmond wrestlers are scheduled to appear, including Cowboy Mike Handsome, Johnny Mo’ Money, Alzono Yo’ Reckless and Suicide Clyde.

Other wrestlers slated to perform include Johnny Bad, Shane Lewis, Unknown Nightmare and Kentucky Stud.

Matches will include both one-on-one battles and tag-team matches.

Grilled food will be served along with beverages donated by Ale-8. Fans arriving early will have the chance for a “meet and greet” with the wrestlers, Richardson said, which includes possible pictures and autographs.

All proceeds from the event will go to the Kunce family.

Anyone with questions concerning the event or who wish to make a donation can call Michelle Richardson at 1-859-779-3307.
