Two men caught in the act of allegedly burglarizing a Richmond home were indicted for the crime Thursday.
Justin Morgan Howell, 22, of the 1600 block of Foxhaven Court in Richmond and David Duane Marcum, 23, of the 550 block of Mt. Rushmore Drive were each indicted for one count of second-degree burglary for unlawfully entering a Richmond residence Aug. 25 on Foxhaven Drive.
Richmond Police Officer Robert Sadler reportedly witnessed the two exiting the residence after he was dispatched to the scene where the burglary was allegedly in progress. The men were coming out the back door of the apartment said RPD Public Affairs Officer Willard Reardon previously.
Howell reportedly was carrying a Minolta digital camera and an extra camera lens as well as a set of Nascar collector knives. At the defendants preliminary hearing before Madison District Judge Brandy O. Brown, Sadler testified the men confessed to the crime in video taped statements.
“Mr. Howell said he didn’t know what he was thinking, that it was a mistake and that he wanted to take it all back,” Sadler said in court.
“Mr. Marcum said they had both smashed in the door, but he didn’t take any items.”
If convicted, Howell and Marcum could both serve five to 10 years in prison for the crime.
An indictment also was returned Thursday against a Richmond mother charged with burning her daughter.
Bridget C. Harris, 23, of the 200 block of Hallie Irvine Street was charged with first-degree criminal abuse. According to the indictment, Harris intentionally burned her 4-year-old daughter with a cigarette on or about Aug. 10 in Madison County.
