Man indicted in string of business break-ins

By Heather Harris
Register News Writer

A Richmond man who allegedly burglarized a string of east area businesses has been indicted by a Madison County grand jury.

Matthew Feck, 23, of Parks Lakes Drive, is charged with seven counts of third-degree burglary, tampering with physical evidence, receiving stolen property, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled substance stemming from an alleged night of crime which happened in the wee hours of Aug. 12.

The grand jury charges that Feck, who waived his right to a preliminary hearing in August, committed burglary at Citifinancial, Employment Plus, Case Cafe, Audio Center, Richmond Motors, Aaron’s Rental Center and Domani Italian Restaurant.

“He knowingly and unlawfully entered” these businesses with “intent to commit a crime” the indictment charges.

Feck also is charged with tampering with physical evidence “when, believing that an official proceeding may be instituted, he destroyed physical evidence which he believed would be used in the official proceeding with the intent to impair its availability.”

The grand jury also charged that on Aug. 12, Feck had received stolen property valued at more than $300 when he retained property belonging to Briensburg Church of Christ while “having reason to know it was stolen.”

Feck also was indicted on drug charges from the same night when he “knowingly and unlawfully possessed Hydrocodone,” a Schedule III narcotic which carries a second-degree possession of a controlled substance charge and “knowingly and unlawfully possessed Valium,” a Schedule IV controlled substance, which carries a third-degree possession of a controlled substance charge.

The grand jury also stated that Feck “unlawfully possessed a straw used to ingest controlled substances into the human body,” which resulted in a possession of drug paraphernalia charge.

Feck is lodged in the Madison County Detention Center on $50,000 bond.
