Friends, family celebrate life of Macy Carta
By Ronica Shannon
Register News Writer
Pamela Carta was not able to attend her daughter Macy Lea Ann’s funeral June 28 after the family was involved in a serious car crash in June.
Carta recently has returned home from the University of Louisville Hospital and has decided that the time has come.
However, Carta said the family has planned an upcoming event that will not be called a “funeral” or a “memorial.”
“This is just a complete celebration of Macy’s life and the life that she’s in right now,” she said.
A celebration in the memory of Macy Carta will be at 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 25, at the Church on the Rock, 1049 Richmond Road, in Berea. The public is invited to attend.
The event will feature special singing by the church’s choir and by Macy’s Sunday school class.
Macy’s father, Capt. Lawrence “Jamie” Carta, had returned home from serving 18 months in Iraq and his family was traveling to a welcoming ceremony in Nelson County.
Pamela, Macy and her brother, Phillip, were traveling eastbound on the Bluegrass Parkway when their 2005 Chrysler Pacifica left the roadway, according to a Nelson County Sheriff’s Department press release issued shortly after the accident. As the vehicle overturned, Macy was ejected from the vehicle.
She was pronounced dead at the scene by an assistant Nelson County coroner. Macy died as a result of trauma she suffered from the crash.
Pamela recently returned home from the University of Louisville Hospital and is recovering from serious injuries.
The 10-year-old was a student at Kingston Elementary School and church members have said that she was a “rambunctious,” athletic little girl, full of spirit and energy.
A member of the Matrix Gymnastics team, Macy was a cheerleader and very athletic. She just finished the fourth grade at Kingston Elementary this spring.
For more information about the celebration, call the Church on the Rock at 986-1899.
