Murder investigation continues

By Heather Harris
Register News Writer

The ongoing investigation into the murder of an elderly Richmond woman, originally thought to have accidentally fallen to her death, is continuing.

Joann Tribble, 78, of 107 Teakwood Drive, was found July 21 in her home suffering from severe wounds that the police first believed were caused by an accident. Three days later, Richmond Police verified that the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Frankfort had ruled the death a homicide.

“The medical examiner ruled the death a homicide based on evidence that Tribble’s injuries were caused by being struck in the head by an object,” Sgt. Willard Reardon said.

Updating the case Tuesday, Reardon said the homicide is still open and under investigation.

“We have detectives from the Criminal Investigation Section working on this case every day,” Reardon said. “We have collected a number of items that have been sent to the crime lab in Frankfort.”

Reardon said the type or nature of the items will not be discussed.

“We are not willing to make that public,” Reardon said. “The case is still open. We are not going to make any statements that might jeopardize the investigation.”

The possible perpetrators of the crime are also an off-limit topic to police because of the ongoing nature of the case.

“During the course of the investigation we are looking at a couple of suspects, but we will not comment on the suspects,” Reardon said.
