Local man sent to hospital with cuts following assault

Richmond police are investigating an early Tuesday morning assault that sent one man to a Lexington hospital with several cuts.

Police say 41-year-old Darrell Nester of Richmond was transported to Pattie A. Clay Regional Medical Center and then to the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington after suffering several cuts following an assault in downtown Richmond around 3 a.m., according to a preliminary report in the case.

An officer found Nester on E. Irvine Street after the apparent assault, said Sgt. Willard Reardon, Richmond Police Department spokesman.

Nester had a long cut on his left biceps, arm and hand as well as a cut on his stomach, apparently from a broken glass bottle, Reardon said.

“Some time during the night he was attacked,” he said.

Nester was taken by ambulance to Pattie A. Clay before being transferred to UK, Reardon said, as a result of the cuts. No additional information on his condition was available.

Reardon said police have not yet identified a suspect in the assault, but are investigating.

“They’re still looking into it because it happened so early,” Reardon said late Tuesday morning.
