Davin Walker, 22, who was arrested Thursday on robbery and fleeing and evading charges after an indecent at the Richmond Wal-Mart is an Eastern Kentucky University football player.
A roster on the university’s sports Web site -- ekusports.com -- lists Walker as a senior wide receiver from Miami, Fla. University spokesman Marc Whitt said that Walker had been enrolled as a student for the spring 2008 semester.
A police report Friday listed a Mahaffey Drive address for Walker. “Since this matter is under police investigation, I can’t comment other than to confirm he was a student spring semester,” Whitt said.
On Saturday, Walker remained in the Madison County Detention Center under a $200,000 cash bond, a jail spokesperson said.
Walker was arrested by Richmond Police near Roy Kidd stadium shortly before 2 p.m. Thursday after fleeing from Wal-Mart after store loss-prevention workers confronted with allegations of shoplifting, said police department spokesperson Sgt. Willard Reardon.
“A physical altercation ensued, and a shopping cart overturned, tearing the tip off of a 69-year-old female customer’s thumb,” he said.
“What otherwise would have been a theft charge was elevated to first-degree robbery by the physical altercation. The incident remains under investigation and other charges could be filed” Reardon said.
Reardon had no update on the woman’s condition Saturday and would not release her name.
