‘Some Gave All’ rides into town
By Ronica Shannon

Remembering those who died in combat and honoring their families will be the centerpiece of the Some Gave All bike rally beginning at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Madison County Courthouse.
The group will visit the hometowns of Kentucky soldiers who have died during the war on terror. The rally will continue on to London, Bowling Green, Hopkinsville, Paducah, Owensboro, Louisville, Newport and Ashland. The final stop will be in Lexington.
The Kentucky Association of Mortgage Professionals are hosting the event and Bev Maybrier of Star Mortgage in Richmond is the event’s local coordinator.
Wednesday’s event will feature several guest speakers, including Richmond Mayor Connie Lawson, Madison Judge/Executive Kent Clark and Commander Steve Robinson of the Kentucky National Guard’s 238th regiment.
There will be a presentation of colors, an invocation, a musical performance of the “Star Spangled Banner,” the recognition of fallen soldiers and a 21-gun salute.
The Veterans of Foreign Wars will conduct a flag-retirement ceremony following Wednesday’s event.
“I know Kentucky has lost 77 courageous and dedicated service personnel during the Iraq War and some of these brave soldiers were from Richmond,” Lawson said. “We will forever be grateful for the sacrifices that these brave heroes made. Hopefully, this Some Gave All event will help give back to the families whose loved ones gave their all.”
There still is time to register for the event. The entry fee is $50 and should be made payable to Some Gave All. The registration price includes an official ride T-shirt, a sew-on vest patch and fuel at five scheduled stops. Lunch and dinner also will be provided at scheduled stops.
The money raised will be used to help support spouses and children of those who lost their lives in combat.
Online registration can be done at www.somegaveallky.com or register at Star Mortgage, 5011 Atwood Drive, Richmond.
The financial goal for the rally is set at $40,000, Maybrier said.
