Suspected meth ingredients found in apartment

BEREA — Responding to a tip Sunday evening, Madison County Sheriff’s Deputy Sam Manley said he observed a propane tank and other items that could be used for the manufacture of illegal methamphetamine in an apartment building at 5019 Appalachian Court off Mt. Vernon Road (US 25).

Manley and Madison County Sheriff’s Sgt. Michael Marcum requested assistance from the Central Kentucky Drug Task Force, and task force members arrived on the scene at approximately 10:15 p.m.

Upon obtaining permission from the building’s owner, a task force spokesperson said officers entered the apartment rented by Rodney L. Perry, 39.

In addition to the propane tank, the officers said they discovered hypodermic needles, a spoon with white residue, bottles of the drain cleaner Liquid Fire, salt and “other items that are indicative of manufacturing methamphetamine.”

Based on the discovery, Task Force Director Rick Johnson then arrested Perry on charges of manufacturing methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Under Kentucky law, manufacturing charges can be filed if a suspect is in possession of two ingredients necessary to produce the illegal substance, Johnson said.

On Monday afternoon, Perry remained lodged in the Madison County Detention Center under $10,000 cash bond.

The task force is continuing to investigate the case, a spokesperson said.
