Post office vandalized over weekend

The Water Street post office was the target of a spray paint-wielding vandal over the weekend, Richmond police said Wednesday.

A postal vehicle and two of the building’s windows were spray-painted, an employee reported to police.

The vandal also painted obscenities on a parking lot exit sign and a concrete wall in the 200 block of S. Madison Avenue, according to Sgt. Willard Reardon, Richmond Police Department spokesman.

Thefts from cars

Police received two reports of thefts from parked vehicles this week.

A resident in the 300 block of Churchill Drive reported Sunday that $315 in cash, a GPS navigation unit, an FM radio transmitter and an English-to-Spanish voice translator had been stolen from his parked car overnight.

Police said there were no signs of forced entry. The items were valued at $682.

A Madison Central High School student also reported a theft from her car Tuesday.

The student told police a Sony car stereo valued at $108 was taken from the car during the school day.

Shoplifting arrests

Two people were arrested following alleged shoplifting incidents at Walmart.

David E. Burnette, 27, of Mount Vernon, was arrested for allegedly taking $30 in merchandise from the store after employees detained him.

Employees also stopped 18-year-old Marisa Bens of Lebanon for allegedly taking $44 in merchandise in a separate incident.
