Lush gardens, creative art on display Saturday

RAAC’s annual Art in the Garden tour

RICHMOND — The creativity of local artists will be on display Saturday in some of Richmond’s most lush and elaborate residential gardens.

The annual Art in the Garden Tour sponsored the Richmond Area Arts Council, the Richmond Garden Club and the Riley Oil Company will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Tickets are $10 in advance or $12 the day of the tour and are available at the Richmond Area Arts Center, 399 W. Water St.

Patrons will receive arm bands as well as addresses and directions to the homes when tickets are purchased. Day-of-the tour tickets may be purchased at any of the homes.

A lunch from Catering By Ann on the Paddock Porch at Arlington, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., has been added as an option to the tour this year. Tickets for the luncheon are $8 and must be purchased no later than 5 p.m. Wednesday at the arts center on Water Street.

The artists who created the works on display in the gardens will be on hand to discuss them. The artwork will be on sale, and the artists also will take commissions.

“With a wide variety of art, there is certain to be something to suit everyone’s taste,” said Deborah Kidd, arts council executive director. “Each year the gardens seem to be more beautiful. This year’s tour has something for everyone and provides a multitude of ideas and information for large or small gardens.”

Walk through the lush garden of Ellen White, 1069 Bay Colony Dr. in the Highland Park subdivision, and feel the breeze off Lake Reba as you marvel at the variety of plants throughout the garden. A grape arbor and pergola made of local cedar are accessible via a paved walkway. The free-flowing lines of the flower beds and shade garden lead to the cedar pergola in an orchard of peach, apple, pear, nectarine and Asian pear trees next to the lake and abundant green space.
