Pack 401 has Blue and Gold Banquet

Northside News

RICHMOND — Cub Scout Pack 401, sponsored by White Hall Elementary School, had its annual Blue and Gold Banquet on the evening of Feb. 19.

This event remains one of the highlights of the scouts’ program year because it celebrates the birthday of scouting.

On this special, annual occasion, pack families come together to enjoy an evening of fun and activities.

One exciting portion of the evening is devoted to the Father/Son Cake Contest.

There are several categories of judging in which a scout may enter his cake to try and win first place. One of the categories for judging this year was the “Best Lego Theme Cake.”

This year’s winning cake is pictured here and was won by Dylan Bowels and stepfather, Jim Wilson. Dylan’s mother, Jerri Wilson, was kind enough to send me a picture for everyone to enjoy.

Congratulations, Dylan. Your cake looks scrumptious!

Traditionally, the second Sunday in February is the day on which Boy Scout Sunday is recognized.

Girl Scout Sunday is recognized on the second Sunday in March.

Because of the difficulty in acknowledging each event separately, a friend at Mount Pleasant Christian Church informed me the church decided to combine the two events and had their “Scout Sunday” on Feb. 24.

The honorees were Dylan Bowles, Hayley Richards and Lilly Shelton.

I was surprised to learn the 12th point in “Scout Law” is a scout’s reverence to God.

That’s wonderful to know!

I’m sorry I don’t have any birthdays or anniversaries to announce. However, I always have an old adage to share with my Madison County friends.

The old adage for this week is as follows: “I don’t care if you bite on a bullet and spit gun powder.”

Contact me with your birthday, anniversary and special event and church or community news at You also may call me at 527-0411.

Until next week, may God bless you and yours.
