Christmas activities underway

Northside News

RICHMOND — Hi, friends. Thank you for the many telephone calls informing me that you missed my article last Thursday.

I assure you, it wasn’t anything to do with the newspaper. I made the mistake when sending in my article.

It is so nice to be missed. I really appreciate the friendships I have made with so many of you. I delight in putting your news and special days in the spotlight for your family and friends to see.

Thanks again, and I will try to keep my articles coming regularly.

We are approaching a wonderful season – a birthday celebration for our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Let us all be mindful of the true reason for the season and not get carried away with gifts and special foods.

Richmond will kick off this special season of the year with a Christmas parade on Friday, Dec. 7, at 6:45 p.m.

I plan on being on the float entitled, “Santa’s Workshop Helpers,” along with other members of Mount Pleasant Christian Church. Be sure and wave to us!

Isn’t there a song that has the words “I love a parade” in it?

Well, I love a parade, as well, and hope to see you there.

The Madison Central High School band’s fruit orders will be in Dec. 3. Thanks to those of you who called and ordered from my grandsons. I will be calling you to make arrangements to deliver your fruit.

Holiday lanterns will be burning brightly next week at out state park.

“Christmas on the Frontier” will be conducted at Fort Boonesborough, 4375 Boonesborough Road, Dec. 7-8, from 6-9 p.m. This program will be a living historical interpretation of our traditional Christmas season.

Why not go and learn how our traditions developed from various ethnic customs, brought to the colonies, and later were carried to the frontiers?

Sample some 18th century foods, hear historical music and enjoy dated games of that time in the fort’s tavern.

Greet old friends around the many roaring bonfires, enjoy old-fashioned

decorations made from natural materials, meet a friendly Native American and hear the blast of the Christmas guns.

For more information, call Fort Boonesborough.

Happy birthday greetings go out to Barbara Grimes and Barry Henderson, both on Dec. 2. Thanks, Barbara, for taking on the youth program at Mount Pleasant Christian Church.

I would like to say happy birthday to a dear friend, Emmery Willis, who will be 92 years young on Dec. 3.

I thank God for the wonderful example this little lady has been to me.

Also, happy birthday wishes go to Carson Sizemore, from the Tates Creek Baptist Church congregation, on Dec. 3, as well.

The old adage for the week is: “If you don’t do it right, when will you have the time to do it over?”

Please, e-mail me your special days and news events to share with our Richmond friends at or call me at 527-0411.

Until next week, may God bless you and yours!
