Hi! I’ve missed you!
I trust all of you had a great Christmas and a happy New Year and you were not one of the ones with “the virus.”
All of our family have taken turns it seems with the stomach ailment, the throat problems and the unending cough!
We’ve not been alone, however. It seems a lot of other people have been victims to the little buggy things.
Besides the “bugs” making one confused, did you feel like you had two week-ends in a row during the holidays?
The “eves” felt like Saturdays, then “the big days” felt like Sunday again (whew)!
I’m just now getting on track with actually knowing what day it really is – one of the reasons, probably, for the Waco News not making it to print, huh?
We did enjoy seeing Santa ride around the subdivisions during Christmas break on the big firetruck, didn’t we kids?
Thanks to our firemen for making that happen!
Speaking of firemen, our Waco Volunteer Fire Department had their annual elections this week.
Our new fire chief is Brandon French. Jason Rawlins is assistant chief, Derek Kelly is captain, Herb Lovett and Thomas Azbill are lieutenants. Congratulations to everyone!
Our thanks and best wishes follow former chief Shawn Berenstain as he and his family plot a new course into their future.
From the desk of Tim Jones, pastor of Flatwoods Christian Church, we have these notes:
• On Jan. 6, the ordination of Phil Herald as a new elder and Andy Dunn as a new deacon, was a special part of the morning service.
• Young people will continue practice for the Puppet Ministry on Sundays at 6 p.m.
Hats off for a job well done on the Dec. 23 Christmas program!
• Our website has been updated in case you would like to peruse the happenings at Flatwoods via pictures – like the very special day for a very special person, yep, Harold Rice was that special honoree!
• Congratulations to Paul Dunn who came in first (for the third time) with his chili recipe on New Years Eve!
Birthday wishes go out to some very special people: Rebecca Tackett, Jan. 2; Geraldine Cain and Chris Stanifer, Jan. 9; and Jeff Marcum and Landon Flynn, Jan. 13.
Sympathies are extended to the family of Winnie Moberly, sister to Melissa Compton, who passed away last Saturday. May it help you to know you are in our thoughts and prayers at this time.
Deepest sympathies also are extended to the family and friends of Connie Dickerson (of Berea) who passed away last Saturday.
All week I have re-lived memories of “all of us” when we were just a few steps away, when our children were just babies and when we were so young. I miss you, dear friend.
Our hearts go out to you, Wayne, Jason and family.
That’s about it for this week. Have a great one – and with almost 70-degree weather on Saturday, I’m sure we can manage that!
