Male mentoring program hears distinguished speakers

Special to the Register

RICHMOND — The African-American Male Mentoring Program (AAMMP) associated with the Madison County Schools continues to move forward with regular meetings and distinguished guest speakers.

November's guest speaker was David Townsend, a graduate of Eastern Kentucky University, and former football player.

The Dec. 3 guest speaker was Teddy Taylor, a retired and Madison County retired teacher who was an All America football player at EKU.

Participants in the AAMMP middle school “Call Me Mister" program recently traveled to

Louisville, where they toured the Ali Center.

During spring break, the group will visit Underground Railroad Museum in Cincinnati.

The program’s eighth- and seventh-grade students and parents are urged to attend the next mentoring meeting Monday, Dec. 17, at the Technology Training Center across the street from Madison Central High School. The Focus Group/Parents meeting is at 5 p.m., followed by the middle school program meeting at 6.
