It’s looking a lot like Christmas in Waco

Waco News

WACO — Hi! It’s been a little frosty this week – time to drag out the old windshield scrapers.

Things are looking up for later this week and the week-end looks even greater – we can handle the 60-plus degrees, can’t we?

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas out this way.  Trees are up and sparkling through the open windows, lights are on the porch roofs and lawn decorations in red and green let us know Christmas is indeed “on the way!”

With Thanksgiving being early this year, we had a full week before Dec. 1 to get things up and going for the “big day.”

You can get in on a big day at Viney Fork Baptist Church Sunday, Dec. 2. The Breakall Family, formerly of Waco, will be in concert, beginning at 1:15 p.m. (Thanks, Mrs. Taylor for the invitation!)

Waco Lodge No. 338 at 195 College Hill Road is hosting its annual potluck Christmas dinner on Dec. 1 at 6 p.m.

College Hill United Methodist Church will host its Christmas program on Dec. 16. (Just giving you a little “head’s up.”)

The annual Thanksgiving service and the Chrismon Tree Service at Flatwoods Christian Church were wonderful ways to begin the holiday season. Thanks to everyone who participated.

Our firefighters recently responded to a structure fire on old Irvine Road just east of Greens Crossing.

The Waco volunteers and Madison County Fire Department quickly had the fire under control. Fortunately, no one was at home at the time.

Birthdays this week?

A few got a little older.

Happy birthday wishes go out (belatedly) to sisters Courtney Tudor and Ashley Parker; Karen Miller; twins Jordan and Jillian Tussey, Nov. 29; and Fred Brandenburg, Nov. 30. I think I know him!

The “favorite” (and only) granddaughter of Jim and Betsy Rogers, Paityn Rhea Shoopman, celebrated her first birthday on Tuesday, Nov 27.

Needless to say, she was the center of attention and enjoyed being showered with presents and hugs from her family members.

Paityn’s parents are Rebekah and Adam Shoopman of College Hill.

Happy anniversary wishes go out to Deana and Eric Brandenburg, Nov. 27; Chester and Marie Rose, Dec. 6; and Fred and me, also on Dec. 6!

On a sad note, sympathies are extended to the family and many friends of Allen Still who was laid to rest on Tuesday.

Allen worked with the Richmond Register for many years.

My acquaintance with Allen goes back much farther to when we were both kids.

Memories of Allen,  cousins Margie (now deceased) and “Brother” (James) are bittersweet – he will surely be missed.

That’s about it for this week. Have a great one!

It was good seeing you Henrietta and Barb and families – love you.

This week marks the 44th anniversary of Earth Day, and what could be more important to our survival than clean air, clean water and clean food?

I love this time of the year because eggs really do go down in price during the Easter season. I have some new recipes on how to fix eggs besides the coloring part.

Who knew the Easter bunny could fly?

Skeptics can come to the Easter Eggstravaganza in Richmond’s Irvine-McDowell Park on Saturday to see for themselves. However, the bunny still doesn’t fly in bad weather. But on Monday, temperatures in the 60s with partly cloudy skies were predicted for Saturday.
