UNION CITY —
Mark Bishop will be in concert at Union City Christian Church this Sunday at 6 p.m. Admission is free to everyone, and a love offering will be taken.
The Union City Baptist Church conducted vacation Bible school last week. Enrollment included 94 youth, six adults and 38 workers, totaling 138.
The school began with a special event on Saturday. A big attraction that day was the roller coaster. The coaster was designed by Bill Cloyd of Newton’s Attic and built by students of Southside Technical Center in Lexington about 11 years ago. It was powered by a bungee type rope that shot the rider forward and up a steep incline before stopping and rolling back. It was designed to be completely safe but still give a thrill.
Several Madison County students attended the NASP Archery tournament in St. Louis last week. Congratulations to the Caudill Middle School team which took first place in the middle school division.
Ryan Long of Madison Central scored 296 for second place in his division. Christa Murphy of the Caudill team scored 291, getting first place in her division. Both of these outstanding archers participate in Union City Christian Church’s weekly archery program.
We learned this week that former Union City resident, Roy Goldstein received a promotion in the U.S. Air Force, June 27. He was promoted from staff sergeant to technical sergeant. He scored in the top 6 percent of his career field. TSgt. Roy Goldstein is engaged to Megan Elizabeth Kosciuszko of Camden, Del. They plan to be married Oct. 12 at Dover Air Force Base. Roy is son of Marc and Gail Goldstein of Union City.
