UNION CITY — Blood mobile visits Union City on Tuesday

The September Ruritan meeting will be 7 p.m. Monday. All members are expected to be on hand

Remember, although the new floor is in place, funds are still being collected to cover the cost. See Robert Murphy if you can help with this.

The Kentucky Blood Center will have a mobile team at Union City Ruritan from 1 to 6 p.m. Tuesday. Everyone who is able is encouraged to come out and donate.

Looking ahead, Union City Ruritan will sponsor a barbecue Saturday, Sept. 21, beginning at 5 p.m. While food is being served, gospel music will be onstage.

Thanks to Billy Wall who arranged the following to be with us for the event: “New Heart” includes Bill Jones, Betty McGuire and Sue Hopper; “Bethlehem Pickers” made up of Mark McGuire, John Natz, Gary Natz, Cindy Freeman and Brian Cole.

I hear some Union City citizens will be traveling to Savannah, Ga., in the next few days on a bus tour. The city is packed with history and interesting events.

A number of movies or parts of them have been filmed in Savannah, including “Forrest Gump,” “Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil” and “Roots: The Next Generation.”

There are cemetery tours to point out famous people who are buried there.

One notable would be Johnny Mercer the writer of these songs, “Moon River,” “Days of Wine and Roses,” and “Fools Rush In.”

We know they will have a great time, and maybe they will tell us about it when they return.

Anniversary wishes go out to Tom and Betty Sowers on Wednesday, Sept. 18.

Happy Birthday this week to Abigail Day Brumfield, Sunday; Bill Anderson, Monday; Betty Sowers, Ronnie Thomas, Jennifer Ramsey, Wednesday; Pat Stephens and Brandy Hayes, next Thursday. If you have news or announcements let me know at 623-3880 or email drtech@roadrunner.com.
