Ruritan schedules soup bean dinner

UNION CITY — This Saturday, Union City Ruritan will have a soup bean dinner from 5 to 8 p.m. There will be music by Trinity Airs and Clyde Coffey. Everyone is welcome.Donations will be taken to benefit the club.

Union City Ruritan met on Monday night. Jeff Bruebaker and Susan Kaylor presented an update on the progress of Blue Grass Chemical Agent-Destruction Pilot Plant at the Blue Grass Army Depot. Construction is 65 percent complete and destruction of weapons will begin in 2020.

What was happening around Union City 100 years ago?

From a 1913 Richmond Climax newspaper you could get buggies and farm equipment fixed by blacksmith R.E. Miller of Union City. W.T. Olds of Union City had eggs for sale that came from S.C. Brown Leghorn hens.  (S.C. meant single comb.) Covington & Banks in Richmond had a sale on “warm winter coats for boys” at $1 each.
