For the third consecutive year, Madison Central High School’s small junior-varsity cheerleading team won its division in the NHSCC 2013 National Championship during competition Feb. 8-10 at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Fla.
The annual event, sponsored by the Universal Cheerleaders Association (UCA), attracted over 3,500 participants from more than 250 qualifying teams and was televised on ESPN and ESPN2 from Disney’s ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.
The MCHS team won the National High School Cheerleading Championship title after being selected as one of 10 semi-finalists in a preliminary round of competition with teams attending from across the country.
Team members were presented with the traditional embroidered white satin jackets and each received a gold medal at the awards ceremony.
The Madison Central Junior Varsity team, coached by Karen Feldhaus with assistants Amanda Spicer and Jason Keogh, also won the title in 2010, 2011 and 2012.
