St. Joseph’s Washburn to speak at Wednesday Lenten lunch

BEREA — BEREA — Flora Washburn, chaplain and mission leader with St. Joseph-Berea hospital will be at the podium for the Wednesday, Feb. 27, installment of the Lenten Luncheon Series at the Berea United Methodist Church.

The luncheon begins at Noon in the Parish House, 101 Fee Street, with a brief program including special music. Following the program, a light lunch will be provided. Those attending should be able to see the program, enjoy a meal, and return to work within 45 minutes; the event ends around 12:45 P.M. Reservations are not necessary; simply come and join in the spirit of community and in celebration of the season of Lent. The theme for 2013 is “Where Love and Mercy Meet.”

A native of California, Washburn and her husband came to Kentucky in 2005. Soon afterward, she began working as a chaplain for Saint Joseph in Lexington. In 2008, she was asked to come to Berea to fill the role of mission leader and chaplain for Saint Joseph-Berea Hospital. Washburn attended The King’s Seminary in southern California.

Flora and her husband, Steve, live in Richmond where she is a member of the Vineyard Community Church.

Other speakers in the series include: Marvin Farmer, businessman and former city council, March 6; Tim and Ruth Walker will speak and sing March 13; Warren May, local dulcimer maker and businessman, speaks March 20; Dr. Sarah Little of St. Joseph Berea Family Medicine is the final speaker March 27.
